there's a bowl of sponge hanging out doing it's thing for 10-15
adding the sponge to the dough ingredients
this is the first time I've ever used my dough hook. Most of the time I just toss ingredients into the bread machine and push a button. But this was pretty awesome to watch (and better than doing it by hand)
I couldn't find an prepared lemon curd at the store and honestly, the ingredients weren't too crazy so I decided to make my own
the final product before it gets tossed into the fridge for an hour or so
while waiting for the dough to rise I mixed up the cream cheese filling
the dough was really sticky so I was worried I'd need a lot of flour. I used waaay more than I should have.
the final product, rolled out much larger than what the recipe calls for. I may have made the dough too thin.
I absolutely love this pastery scraper. I use it to cut stuff too, as you can see
I realized early on I was cutting the strips for the braids crooked so I used the rolling pin to line it up and make them even
I put the cream cheese and lemon curd on after I cut out the braids, not before.
as you can see, I used a little bit too much flour
why toss out the scraps? Into the freezer you go!
After letting the bread sit for another 40 or so minutes I gave it an egg wash and into the oven it went
voila! I didn't have sugar pearls or fancy sparkly sugar crystals, but I figure this is going to be plenty sweet all on it's own
