Could book publishing suffer the same fate as the comic book industry? [Futurism]
source: io9

I could see that. There's a relatively new (couple years old) Barnes and Noble that was built on to one of the malls in Grand Rapids. It's a very nice building. Ceiling is two stories high in a good portion of the store. There are two escalators coming and going to the second floor, and every time I walk in there it just seems so ancient. Why would I buy books? I could download these to the tablet or ereader so much faster and easier. Sure occasionally buying a few actual books is a nostalgic novelty. I plan on buying the third Darwyn Cook Parker Graphic Novel in a few weeks, but y'know what, I'll probably read the novel itself on my tablet. The actual print book will likely just sit on my shelf as an heirloom.

this is incredibly tempting. 6"x6" prints, so they are a good size and you could always print multiple pieces for something bigger. $549, so a very obtainable pricepoint. Preassembled, and good software so it's easy to use. Now just need a reason to have one.

Pretty good video. Loses it's way at the end abit, but the beginning and middle has some good stuff.

Differing Attention

I've got a couple people that send me texts, quite often. Thing is, since I've gotten the iPad, my phone isn't my main device. It's quite common for me to come home and put my phone on the charger in the bedroom and not pick it up for the rest of the night.

My iPad however goes with me throughout the house. Eating a snack in the kitchen, on the side table while watching tv, on the nightstand, kicking back in the living room reading an ebook.

I see my emails or social mentions pop up on my iPad constantly, and generally respond fairly quickly to them. Even voice calls go to Google Voicemail which generates an email that shows up on my tablet.

Text Messages, not so much. If I'm not leaving the house for awhile, or I'm in for the night, I might not see a text until I pick up my phone and leave for the the next day.

Even at work my phone often sits on it's charger, while my iPad walks all over cubeville with me.

So whereby for many people, their phone is the center of their connected universe, me not so much. If you're message doesn't pop up in the iOS notification area, it might be awhile before I notice it.

Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day team up for Tabletop, a show about tabletop games
source: Boing Boing

I've seen a couple episodes of this now. It's a well done show, but you'd have to really really be interested in board games to sit through the whole thing. Episode 2 featured Settlers of Catan which is a great game, but watching other people play for a half hour is a bit of a reach. For the right audience though, I'm sure this is quite awesome as the production quality is very high.

I think while video is on the rise on a myriad of small screens, there is probably some truth to the importance of the one large screen waning a litlle.

I bought one of these, in all the moving activity I've yet to really use it yet. Once you get used to phone and wi-fi devices with video and photo capabilities it's hard to go back to picking up a device that you have to "download" images after the fact with.

Neat idea. I think I'd rather do the same thing in wood, the only practical thing I can see is that there are a couple times of year where we have about 3 different weights of coats that we switch between so a couple of these probably would work, but still, neat idea.

Neat idea. I think I'd consider doing a two level deep version of this for our tv den, but I think it would be cool to have the lower level slide under the upper level to save space.

Blog catch-up

Been doing the moving into the new house thing all month, so haven't really been blogging at all. In fact, just last night I got my desktop set up in the new office.

Jenn's been posting alot of blog updates though. On April 1st she has pics of me putting together basement shelves and tables and such. On the 3rd she had a nice write up on our laundry chute.

On the 5th she had this nice picture of Palmer park which is now a short walk from our home.

Taking a stroll through Palmer park. #peaceful

On the 7th Jenn posted a write up of wide ranging Saturday activities Curtain shopping, baking, lawn mowing and more. Pretty standard suburban fare. There's some great cheesecake photos there too.

On the 8th, Easter Sunday, Jenn has a write up of us going to her parent's house for easter and a rediculous mad dash through Ikea.

On the 9th, there was the hanging of the living room drapes.

On the 11th, we had Comfort and Adam over!

If you are following this blog for any sort of personal reasons, you really should follow Jennifer's blog as well she has alot more photos of me than my blog does and is alot more regular about posting.
