More on iPod Touch
As you can imagine, I've been playing with the Touch quite abit all day. I have tried a few more apps.
iMovie works really well, combined two different clips, added a transition, added a title, uploaded to Youtube. Nice.

The light Photoshop app worked real well. For cropping and adjusting images.
Siri, the voice search/assistant app is really slick and Google's voice search also worked well.
I even received a Facetime call, although I wasn't in the room at the time to answer it. That seems very slick.
really like the Posterous app too.
I was also very pleased with using Google Reader and switching between multiple open windows in Safari.
Will probably look for a nice drawing/sketching app next.
iPod Touch iOS 4 intital thoughts
Jenn got me an iPod touch for my birthday this morning. Totally a surprise. I had been mentioning that I wanted to possibly get an iOS device of some sort so that I could play around with some of the apps, but totally in the abstract, I wasn't expecting to get one.
She's awesome like that.
Anyway, I've been playing with it this morning, and here are my initial reactions:
- The App store works very very well. - I downloaded Facebook, Flickr, Skype, Tweetdeck, Yelp, Comixology, Skype Kindle New York Times, Twitvid, Flickr all very quickly.
- I feel a little guilty playing with it, mostly because I feel like I'm cheating on my beloved palm Pre.
- It's fast. Very little lag when launching apps.
- I prefer the WebOS card system, but the app multitasking in iOS 4 is very useable.
- I am bummed that it doesn't have the nice gesture area back swipe to go back a screen on iOS like my Pre does. Hitting the little back arrows seems archaic.
- The video app on the touch is top notch. Very very slick, and it was easy to upload a video to twitpic too. This is definitely my new preferred video taking device.
- The Kindle app is nice. All the books I had downloaded to my Android Tablet were instantly available.
- The Comixology app is very sharp on the retina display. You can actually read the word balloons even with the page shown full screen. And the zooming from panel to panel is very very slick. 7" tablet or netbook screen is probably still my preferred way to read, but this is a slick experience.
- Twitvid and Youtube apps accessed my content very very quickly and the video was very very sharp.
- Facebook app looked very similar to my WebOS one. Not sure which I like better yet.
- Tweetdeck on iOS I'm very impressed with. Scrolling between columns is very slick.
Probably will be most interested in finding a good image editor app, photo apps, and video apps. Also will be interested in how this extra device will fit itself into my Palm Pre, Android Tablet, Netbook, Desktop use rotation.
If you have App recommendations you think I'd be interested in, please share them in the comments.
Blogging
Got a bunch of donuts and chips and cookies at my desk, so I'm skipping actually eating for lunch. Was going to write a blog post instead, but can't think of too much to blog about at the moment.
Birthday this weekend, that's cool. Even more snacks planned.
Phones
Nice to see Palm Pre 2 with Web OS 2.0 coming out soon. So far, I'm still thinking I'm sticking with Palm next year. Just haven't been as into the UI of Android, despite the ever growing number of apps there. Plenty of useful apps on Web OS for the most part.
Since the early Palm Pre adopters all bought their phones in June 08, I would imagine if they are going to come out with a serious new form factor, they'd announce it before next summer to maximize retaining people whose 2 year phone contracts would be up by then, but who knows.
Of course, Android is liable to get another 2 or 3 revisions in by then, so who knows where that will go.
