» Another good episode of Battlestar Galactica last Friday. Of course with all the stars in the sky, Galactica happens to pick the right one to stumble upon Kobol? and then there is the business of the captured Cylon fighter having the abillity to jump all the way back to Caprica in one leap? Of course all in all the writers of the show have been keeping this sort of business way below Trek levels, so in the grand scheme, I'm not complaining.
Listened to the podcast comentary this weekend also. Listening to those, I get the sense that the executive producer doesn't exactly know where he wants this show to end up. Good show though, having next week be the last new episode for awhile will be a bummer.
Comments on Comics
JLA #112 Busiek, Garney
Crime Syndicate part 6- Pretty big Superhero action in this one. Personally I don't care for the Justice League Elite concept entering the story, but other than that, Good Stuff.
Young Avengers #2 Heinberg, Cheung
Good comic. Whatever Marvel says, this *is* Teen Titans done Avenger style. But still it's Good Stuff.
Wonder Woman #214 Rucka, Johnson
Part two of the Flash Crossover. Good stuff, the whole blind Wonder Woman thing still seems pointless, but there was a very good line about Strawberry Shampoo in the book because of it. Good stuff.
Runaways #2 Vaughn, Alphona
Very similiar in tone to Young Avengers. Very nice character designs and costuming. I don't really know the back story of Power Pack over the last 10 years, but I like the Starstreak costume update on the back splash page. Good Stuff.
The New Avengers #4Bendis, Finch
"You don't go to the Savage Land without Crashing". Very Good Superhero stuff.
JLA Classified Giffen, DeMatteis, Maguire
Ralphina. Bwaaa Haa Haa. You get your money's worth out of the writing on this title. (Good Stuff)

» Saw the American version of the Office last night. It was almost an identical refilming of the British version which made it hard to laugh at the jokes that I've heard before. Hopefully they stray alot more from the BBC scripts with the upcoming episodes, otherwise I can't see the show taking off. Reruns just aren't as funny. Recasted reruns are less funny.
I doubt the core audience for this show is going to get too excited by it.
It's too bad too, because I would love to see new episodes of this show. However, I'm less set on rewatching the episodes I've already seen with different actors.

» Only two more weeks of Battlestar Galactica left. Episode was entitled "Colonial Day" and was a West Wing Styled episdoe that centered around a political play between the Richard Hatch, Mandella/Terrorist Character and the President. I also again watched the episode a second time with the audio comentary, it's good stuff too, but Ron Moore needs to find a Quieter place to record these. Last Week aeroplanes in the background and this week: barking dogs and police sirens. Anybody know when season two will start?
» DC Direct's Green Lantern Wave came out this past week featuring Post-Rebirth Hal Jordan Green Lantern, Parallax, Blackhand, a Guardian two-pack and what I think is the nicest figure of the wave: Kilowog, the most poozer-pounding Green Lantern of them all. I've pictured him at right with a couple other more massive figures for scale. Overall the wave is one of DC Direct's best to date, with what I think is about the perfect level of articulation (stopping just shy of the over articualtion that Marvel Legends does.) Good Stuff.

Comments on Comics part deux
Teen Titan's #22 Johns, McKone
Nice enough story.... but c'mon, 22 or more Titan's lined up to take on Dr. Light next issue? This upcoming battle should take a grand total of half a page, I would think.
Ultimates 2 #4 Millar, Hitch
For me this title is interesting at this point because reading it feels like your seeing the Ulitmate non-mutant Marvel Movie that will never be. Some of the novelty is wearing off over the last few issues, but Ultimates is still one of the few blockbuster monthly titles out there. Good Stuff.
JLA #110 and #111
Crime Syndicate parts 4 and 5. Good Stuff, Stretched out to long, but good stuff that will make a nice tradepaperback.

» I find the coverage that the Courthouse shooting guy in Atlanta has been given, insanely overdone. MSNBC is doing Special coverage of "Atlanta: the Manhunt Ends". What manhunt? The guy was only out of custody for something like 24 hours. Yeah, it was a bad deal down there. But more or less 48 hours of constant coverage? Come on?
It's bad enough that the country is ontrack toward a one party system. I'm solidifying in opinion that you can pretty much write off any sort of Journalistic 4th estate too.
On the topic of the News, I saw Friday's Real Time with Bill Mar. He made an observation that I hadn't noticed anyone in the mainstream news make. Michael Jackson obviously had time for his elaborate make-up job, yet didn't find the time to put on pants? Something's not quite right about that.
Bad Journalists. Bad.

» Good Battlestar Galactica yesterday. A combat in space episode where they got to apply some heavier effects budget stuff. I also rewatched the episode today with the podcast commentary. Also good stuff. It's a larger investment of time watching the show twice each week, but the podcast comentary is akin to attending a lecture series on how to create dramatic sci-fi. Very informative and very entertaining in it's own right.
» Saw the Documentary(???) Supersize Me this past week. It was a very well put together film. The main guy in it was very entertaining. I even had McDonalds for lunch the next day after watching it.

Ultimate Iron Man Orson Scott Card, Andy Kubert
Fine enough comic. Not sure about the Tony Stark "Super powers" angle. I don't think I'll add this book to my list of regulars either.
Lex Luthor Man of Steel Azzarello, Bermejo
What's with the seems down the center of Superman's Shorts? As far as storyline, I like the Villian-point-of-view angle of the book. However, I don't get the feeling that this book was conceived to fit into the current and upcoming DCU plans for the character, I may be wrong on that though. I will probably pick-up the second issue, but if a plot isn't introduced beyond this issues establishing machinations then I'll probably drop it.
Adam Strange #6 Andy diggle, Pascal Ferry
Good Stuff, The fun trip around the DCU cosmos continues.
Superman #214 Brian Azzarello, Jim Lee
The OMAC story works its way into this issue. Hate this Zod Version.
Green Arrow #48 Judd Winnick, Tom Fowler
Good Stuff. Go Team Arrow! A Judd Winick book I really enjoyed, Go Figure.

» Battlestar Galactica Friday. Started off strong, but the XO wife character was a little over the top. Having everyone hanging around in the lab while the Cylon results came back didn't seem to make much sense either. If you have a Cylon detector and you have a strong suspicion that you have a Cylon agent in your midst, would you invite that enemy to hang out in the lab with the only existing detector? Pretty poor episode by Battlestar's precedents. Still ok by most sci-fi comparison however.
Begining with this episode, Sci-Fi is offering a 20meg MP3 "Podcast" Director (or in this case Excutive Producer/Head Writer) Commentary that you can download and then play along with the show. It's a great added value with a real behind the scenes talk on the production of the show and the thoughts behind the characters and their performances. I suppose now I'll be watching the show twice, once on Friday and then a second time over the weekend with the commentary playing on my Pocket PC. Good Stuff.

Firestorm #11 Jolley, Eaglesham
Is Firestorm the New Green Lantern? What I mean is, Are they going to continue with the new kid but still leave the reverence in place for the original Firestorm ala what was done with Hal Jordan for the logest time? In any case, the more I pick-up this book, the more I think that the Firestorm concept just doesn't work in today's comicscape. Not bad overall, but that feeling is out of nostalgia more than real interest.
Marvel Team-up #6 Kirkman, Kollins
Nice wrap up to the title's first arc. One of my favorite series at the moment. Good stuff.

Batman #637 Winick, Mahnke
Straightforward Superhero fun as Nightwing and Batman take on an older model Amazo. A fun Romp. Good Stuff.
Marvel Team-up #5 Kirkman and Kollins
This is quickly becoming my favorite Marvel Comic. It's very much a tour through the Marvel Universe ala Identity Crisis was, with DC, but without the heavy tone or seriousness of the Distinguished Competion's tale. The Marvel Universe itself is the star of this book (or at least this arc). Loved the Spidey meeting X-23 panel: "Oh Man! WOLVERINE GOOD LORD! What did they DO to you?!". That's just priceless.
Green Arrow #47 Winick and Fowler
Team Arrow (Isn't that just a great Silver Agey name?) vs. the Duke of Oil. Yeah, I didn't know who he was either, but this ones a fun book. The Speedy sub plot is kept to a page this time (Will they mention it every issue? Maybe they could just put it in a caption blurb on the first page and get it out the way upfront). I will admit, they tied it in nicely to the original Speedy's problem though. Art is fine, but it seems like they should explain the wide smiles. Is there a low level of Joker sereum in the air in Star City? Overall pretty ok.

I don't spell check! Most of the time the Quotes of the Day are by someone else, and sometimes I misremember them abit... and they are taken out of context. I often state my opinions as facts. I'm aware that can be annoying? Occasionally I edit content on these pages after initially posting them. Sometimes I type the word "Fnck". Flip the "n" over... I don't have a problem with the word myself, I just type it that way to slip it past overzealous work censorship programs. I'm also aware that I spend too much time on the internet.
